Patrick Lencioni on Teamwork
Listen to Patrick Lencioni on the power of teamwork. Using The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team™ model we can help you facilitate a learning experience that helps professionals and their organizations discover what it takes to build a truly cohesive and effective team. The Five Behaviors is grounded in the model described in The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, the internationally best-selling leadership fable by Patrick Lencioni.
We all work in teams. Whether you’re the head of a fortune 500 company or a solo entrepreneur working with a virtual assistant off-site, no one works alone. That’s why teamwork is more important than ever.
Lots of companies pay lip service to the concept of building a strong team but few actually provide the tools to create one. Quite often there’s a disconnect between what senior management expects from their teams and how a team can actually deliver those results. We believe that a strong team built on proper business principals is essential to helping your business achieve specific goals.
It’s why we offer team coaching designed to help your business be ready to take on tough challenges, establish trust, resolve conflict fairly and humanely within a group, and help team members feel empowered, appreciated, and compensated for their contributions.
BreakthroughROI uses team coaching to help teams:
Increase communication and motivation amongst team members
Build trust and increase accountability among team members to help ensure goals are met
Reduce conflict to ensure results and put the focus on the customer
Conduct more productive meetings by asking the “right questions,” address conflicts and potential problems and conclude with commitments that are more likely to be completed
Transition in new team leaders and members with ease and efficiency
The Power of Team vs. Silo Mindset
The most powerful way for a team to embrace cohesiveness with through the Team #1 Mindset. This is where all members of the team place a higher priority on the team they’re a member of than the team they lead in their departments. A good way to go about this is simply to ask which team is their first priority. This video says it all…
About the program
The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team™ is the result of the partnership between Wiley's Workplace Learning Solutions Group and best-selling author Patrick Lencioni. Together we have created a team development program for organizations with a simple goal—to help teammembers understand, embrace, and put into practice The Five Behaviors.
What does this program do?
The program helps teams understand how, as a team, they score on the key components of The Five Behaviors model: trust, conflict, commitment, accountability, and results. Each individual on the team will also understand their own personality style and their team members styles, based on either the Everything DiSC® model OR All Types™ (an MBTI derivative), and how their style contributes to the team’s overall success.
Who is it for?
The program is designed exclusively for intact teams and work groups. These concepts are also transferrable to matrix teams.
How does it work?
The Five Behaviors Model is used to help team members learn to work together more efficiently and effectively and become a more cohesive team. A productive, high-functioning team:
Makes better, faster decisions
Taps into the skills and opinions of all members
Avoids wasting time and energy on politics, confusion, and destructive conflict
Avoids wasting time talking about the wrong issues and revisiting the same topics over and over again because of a lack of buy-in
Creates a competitive advantage
Is more fun to be on!
Introduction to 5 behaviors of a cohesive team
The Model below introduces The Five Behaviors model in the context of a real team. It explains how the behaviors derive from The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, by New York Times best-selling author, Patrick Lencioni, and describes how critical the behaviors are to building a cohesive team.
Overview
Based on the international best-seller, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team and powered by Everything DISC® OR All Types™ (MBTI®), The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team is proven to deliver business results. Participants will learn how to model Trust, Conflict, Commitment, Accountability, and Results—to become a truly cohesive team.
Description:
The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team™ is an assessment-based learning experience that helps individuals and organizations reveal what it takes to build a truly cohesive and effective team in the most approachable, competent, and effective way possible. Powered by Everything DiSC® OR All Types™ (MBTI®), the profiles help participants understand their own personality styles. Bringing together everyone’s personalities and preferences to form a cohesive, productive team takes work, but the payoff can be huge—for individuals, the team, and the organization.
Designed exclusively for intact teams and work groups, the program helps members understand how, as a team, they score on the key components of The Five Behaviors model: trust, conflict, commitment, accountability, and results. Each individual on the team will also understand their own DiSC® style—D: Dominance, i: Influence, S: Steadiness, and C: Conscientiousness, OR All Types™ (MBTI®), and how their style contributes to the team’s overall success.
The program includes:
7 modules with over 40 minutes of video
Individual Profiles, participant handouts, take-away cards and activities
Podcasts, online resources, and a research report
Progress Reports and an Annotated Team Report for the Facilitator

The team has lost an important client but no one wants to admit fault or ask for help.
Patrick Lencioni describes the difference between vulnerability-based trust and predictive trust and explains why trust is so foundational for cohesive teams.
Team members freely admit mistakes they've made, apologize for them, and ask for help in the future.
